"A Lesson in Commitment, Community, and the Power of Showing Up"

Gautam and I have trained together on and off for a few years. His routine was often disrupted by work, family life, and energy dips. He was never short on intention, but consistency was a challenge — until he committed to something bigger than just fitness: the Rupin Pass trek in the Himalayas.

(By Gautam Avvaru)

“It all started with a call from my schoolmate… I didn’t know what lay ahead, but sometimes, saying yes is all it takes to begin a life-changing chapter.”

That goal became his anchor.

We began training 3–4 times a week at 6:00 AM in preparation for the trek. Our sessions were in his home gym studio, where his wife Chandrika often joined us—on the mornings she could actually get out of bed that early 😄. Some days she’d smash out 50 jumping jacks! Music in the background, always some laughs, the “Can we change this exercise?” from Gautam (who was always negotiating with me 😅)—it became less like a workout and more like a morning ritual, a shared space of energy and movement, where showing up mattered more than being perfect

Even on low-energy days, Gautam showed up. No shortcuts—just consistent effort and quiet determination.

You can check out his story by himself here—a journey that pushed his limits at 4,657 meters above sea level.

Why I’m Sharing This

Because I know there are so many people who want to move more, feel better, and live with more vitality, but feel like they have to “be ready” first. Or perfect. Or young. Or slim. But here’s the truth:

👉 You don’t need perfection.

👉 You don’t need extreme diets or punishing workouts.

👉 You don’t even need high energy—at least, not at the start.

All you need is a willingness to show up!

Fitness isn’t about looking a certain way. It’s about being strong enough to live the life you want. Whether that’s a trek in the Himalayas, playing with your kids without getting breathless, or just feeling confident and capable in your body again.
